gstatty /jē-stat-ē/ noun.  abbreviation of g status.  a name given to the author.

I became a rap enthusiast at the age of 9.  I was downrocking at the age of 7 without really understanding it’s cultural significance.  This is a lifestyle choice for me.  When I first made the pilgrimage to the birthplace of hip hop, New York, at age 10, I talked my moms into buying me a knockoff Wu-Tang shirt at the wholesale spot in Queens (pre Wu-wear) with the chorus of C.R.E.A.M. written on the back.  Back in elementary, all the other kids would ask me what the Wu-tang clan was and if it was some sort of kung-fu movie.

Wu Tang is for the Children

In middle school I would often call-and-response with a friend the chorus to the song ‘Stay True’ off 2pac’s Thug Life album:  “Thug life, Y’all know the rules gotta do what you gotta do.”  “Stay True.”  The creation of this blog is my honest attempt at staying true, both to myself and to the music that has shaped my outlook on life.  I hope to bring my readers my honest opinions on the state of the rap music industry and hip hop culture, no bullshit.
